At the end of 2018 I put together 5 lists on Twitter of over 100 VC firms based in London working across the pre-seed to Series A+ categories. The original blog post did harness some interest so this will be a series of 7 articles going into detail and listing all the funds within each category. This is Part 6that focuses on funds that offer Seed as well as Series A, B, C etc investment, because of the number of such funds the article will be divided into 2 parts.

Earlybird VC

Official description: Earlybird is a venture capital investor focused on European technology companies. Founded in 1997, Earlybird invests in all growth and development phases of a company. Amongst the most experienced venture investors in Europe, Earlybird offers its portfolio companies not only financial resources, but also strategic and operational support as well as access to an international network and capital markets. Earlybird manages different funds with focuses on digital technologies in Eastern and Western Europe as well as health technologies. Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between €1M and €28M.

Portfolio companies: 100+, 30+ exits.

Index Ventures

Official description: Index Ventures is a multi-stage international venture capital firm that backs the best and most ambitious entrepreneurs. These leaders are building truly transformative companies that are reshaping the world around them, including: Dropbox, Etsy, Sonos, SoundCloud, Flipboard, King, BlaBlaCar, Squarespace, Just Eat, Lookout, Hortonworks, Nasty Gal, Pure Storage, Supercell, Criteo, Funding Circle and many others. How they are viewed: very founder education oriented, it is not uncommon to come across them leading a workshop. IN the last year they have focused the conversation around talent and stock options.

Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between £5M to £114M.

What are they looking for: they primarily invest into Fintech, infrastructure, business services.

Portfolio companies: name any well known startup top of your head its likely to be in this portfolio Asos, City Mapper. According to Crunchbase they had 149 exits.

IQ Capital

Official description: IQ Capital is a Cambridge-based VC firm that invests in ‘deep tech’ companies capable of dominating their respective markets on a global scale. Initial investments range from £0.3m to £3m, and up to £10m for follow-on. The team has achieved over 30 exits including to Apple, Huawei, Google and Oracle. (via Crunchbase)

Money they have (how big is the fund): £167M

Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between from £1.3M to £31M.

What are they looking for: deep tech.

Portfolio companies: 54, including 8 exits.

Kindred Capital

Official description: Kindred aligns ambitions and achievements with the portfolio. In structure and in spirit. Every single founder that the company backs will become a co-owner of the fund. (via Crunchbase)

Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between £500K to £12M.

Portfolio companies: 23 with 2 exits.

LocalGlobe

Official description: LocalGlobe is a UK-based venture capital firm that focuses on seed and impact investments. Seeding ambitious UK founders since 1999 inc Citymapper, Improbable, Lovefilm, Moo, Tweetdeck, Transferwise and Zoopla. (via Crunchbase)

Money they have (how big is the fund): £160M.

Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between from £1.3M to £50M.

Portfolio companies: 150+, including 28 exits.

Millhouse LLC

Official description: Millhouse, Inc. PLC is a listed international diversified funds management business with its securities quoted on Deutsche Börse.

Its business is to acquire existing businesses in funds management, investment management, and asset management across asset sectors. These acquisitions are conducted at historically low prices and capitalise on the considerable sunk costs invested by previous owners. (via Crunchbase)

Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between from £250K to £100M

Portfolio companies: 24, including 2 exits.

Notion

Official description: Notion is an entrepreneur-led venture capital firm focused on high potential businesses in the Cloud Computing and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) markets. The Notion partners have unique expertise and experience in the Cloud Computing market having been founders and operators in two highly successful businesses in the space – Star and MessageLabs. How they are viewed: A fund that is super generous in sharing knowledge through events and resources that they put together.

Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between from from £1.8M to £75M.

What are they looking for: Cloud Computing and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) markets.

Portfolio companies: 44, including 10 exits.

Events: Organise a lot of events, check out the upcoming ones on their website.

OpenOcean

Official description: OpenOcean is an early-stage venture capital firm investing across Europe with offices in London, Helsinki, and Amsterdam. With an entrepreneurial background from building several category-defining software businesses, the firm engages with founders to build and scale global companies delivering data-intensive and delicious software solutions. OpenOcean typically leads or co-leads €5M Series A funding rounds in Europe. (via Crunchbase)

Conditions they invest under: they invest into startups raising between from from £1.6M to £17.5M.

Portfolio companies: 36, including 2 exits.

How big is the fund: $129M

Conditions they invest under: Invest in companies raising from £650K to £85M.

What are they looking for: FinTech.

Portfolio companies: 120, 8 exits including Mendeley, Toothpick, and Flattr.

Pentech Ventures

Official description: Pentech Ventures is a venture capital fund focused on finding category defining software companies. Their passion is helping founders develop their startup into an internationally successful organisation. They have done this multiple times, partnering with leading VCs, corporations and investment banks along the way. They consider any opportunity capable of becoming a market leader but are most comfortable being the first venture investor, supporting founders through the early stages of proving product and market fit.
