The Inaugural MetaChess Tournament! Let’s Put Your Chess Skills to the Test
MetaChess is taking chess to the metaverse and building a complete blockchain-based ecosystem for the enthusiastic chess world. To celebrate all we achieved over the last year and bring the community closer together, MetaChess is excited to announce our first official PVP chess tournament.
During the tournament, you’ll get to meet and interact with other chess players and MetaChess community members across the world, as well as get the chance to earn SHAH tokens.

Details of the MetaChess Tournament
Date: Sunday the 16th of January, 2022; 7pm UTC
Platform: Lichess.org — Lichess is a free and open-source internet chess server run by a non-profit organization. On the platform, tournaments can be organized. We’ll use the platform for the MetaChess tournament, as our platform is undergoing development.

Tournament Format: PVP (Player vs Player)
- Note: You keep playing whether you win or lose. You should aim to accumulate as many points as possible in the 90-minute time frame. The tournament lasts 90 minutes. At the end of 90 minutes, the users with the highest points win.

Tournament Length: 90 minutes
Time Control: Blitz 5 + 2
- In the MetaChess Tournament, each player will have 5 minutes, plus 2 seconds additional time per move, starting from move 1.

Prize Categories: We’ll award SHAH tokens to the top 3 in each skill category.
- 2000+ Rating(most elite players)
- 1800–1999 Rating
- 1500–1799 Rating
- 1200–1499 Rating
We’ll give prizes according to the top players in each rating category. That way, it’s fair for everybody and you have a chance to win — even if you aren’t a grandmaster. See this webpage for Lichess’ rating explanations.
- Note: If you create a new account, your rating will be 1500. Your rating may increase as you participate in the tournament. The rating we’ll consider is the final rating at the end of the tournament — not the initial rating.
Prize Pool: $1000 USD worth of SHAH tokens
Prize Details: $250 USD worth of SHAH for each category
2000+ Rating Category
1st: $125 worth of SHAH
2nd: $75 worth of SHAH
3rd: $50 worth of SHAH
…1800–1999 Rating Category
1st: $125 worth of SHAH

*Important: SHAH tokens will be distributed to the winners once the platform is live and tokens have been generated.
What’s Next?
This is just the start of tournaments. There will be more to follow after this with even bigger prizes.
Our Founder, Jephtah Oyelabi, will be doing some AMAs soon too. This should help spread the word about our amazing project.
We also will be holding our public sale soon. Stay tuned for that announcement, as we want our early supporters to have the earliest possible access to SHAH tokens.

About MetaChess:
MetaChess is the first 3D multiplayer play-to-earn (P2E) and NFT metaverse chess game. The platform is in 2D and 3D. The 3D version will be divided into two. The first part is the regular chess game, with traditional chess pieces in 3D. The second part is more animated and fancy. It consists of chess pieces in the form of humanoid characters. You can own NFTs (unique chess pieces) which will be used in the game. The platform also has play-to-earn (P2E) models that make it worth players’ time. The 2D version is currently playable. You can either play with AI or play with another user.
