I have made IndustrialMechs for this blog before, but I reckon I have yet to post a military IndustrialMech — a machine using civilian technology but meant for some sort of military or law enforcement role, a MilitiaMech. Well, that changes today as I show you one of the most widespread of those machines, the Capellan-made Guard.

MilitiaMechs were originally made by profiteering companies meant to capitalize on the relative obscurity of BattleMech technology. In its infancy only the Terran Hegemony truly dominated the construction of these new vehicles. Soon, the inferiority of these MilitiaMechs would be made clear once they had to face actual BattleMechs in combat.

This does not mean MilitiaMechs don’t have a place. Because they use widespread technology they are very cheap compared to military machines, meaning they can be acquired by law-enforcement organizations, planetary militias, mercenaries, and even some second-line military units. It represents a hefty market, from which many companies wanted a part.

The Guard, made in the Capellan Confederation, was a very simple and light machine produced since the Succession Wars that spread throughout both Capellan and Combine worlds. Quality control was shoddy and the armament of two machineguns barelly enough for crowd control, which earned the Guard a lackluster reputation.

Moreover, its ubiquity meant that it would find itself dragged into a few conflicts. In 3034 it would be used by the Rasalhaguians in lieu of the BattleMechs they barely had. Their more notorious use, though, was by the Magistracy of Canopus during the ill-fated Andurien Secession. The Guard would find itself overpowered by even the humble Locust BattleMech, although it had some use as a scouting and anti-infantry unit.

Usian 33 parts, this model is really easy to put together if you have the bits and pieces. Quad ‘Mechs are among my favorite to create and they always look good.

If you like stuff like this you can give me a tip in my Ko-fi account to help me keep the lights on and invest in other projects, including original games, fiction, and RPG modules. I have a lot in store for you people, if I only find the time (a slippery dude, this “time”).

Now go out there play games and enjoy your lives!
