Lego Build 77 — Sabre Fighter

Like in prior posts, I keep delving both in my own UA concepts from decades ago, but also in some lesser known vehicles from the BattleTech setting which I think really deserve some love. The Sabre is a machine that fills a really interestign niche — that of an affordable, light aerospace fighter.

In the setting’s lore, the Sabre is an ancient machine that survived almost a thousand years of service by being what is necessary whenever new technologies come around, become quite expensive and force second-line units to seek more affordable machines to fill in numbers. Despite its age, some of the newer versions of the machine sport solid firepower for its size and are relatively easy to maintain and acquire.

But there is a more somber part of this success, too.

This fighter was originally built in the Draconis Combine and as it became old technology the rights to produce it were given to companies across the Inner Sphere. While this allowed the Sabre to become a common aerospace fighter, it also allowed the Combine to spy on its clients. When this Reimei Ring was discovered, it spawned a internation incident that led to a widespread distrust of the government in Luthien.

It is a nice backstory for a simple, unassuming jet. The build I made of it takes 43 parts plus the base. In my Blake’s War AU this is the light fighter choice for the Inner Sphere (Draconis Combine) faction.

As a side note, I should also admit that on this post I used the portrait layout for the build instead of the landscape one, something I haven’t done in a while as the landscape offers more useful space. However, for some reason it wasn’t converting correctly to JPG. So, it’s a sort of blast from the past in that way.

Hope you enjoyed this new build. See you all soon!
