Tiny Homeworld Build 04 — Kushan Fleet Part 2
Destroyers and capital ships.
So, after a few delays I’ve finally managed to get this one posted. I’m sorry that it took me a while, but real-life tends to throw some hurdles in our way, some good, some bad. You can help me expedite some of these posts by supporting me on Ko-fi, or by checking my RPG materials and original games. Even a little can help me devote more time to this work and provide more stuff.
With that said, let’s get back to the point.
Last time, we checked on the first half of the Kushan fleet at this deformed scale. All of those ships were crucial for the survival of the Exiles as they moved closer to the promised homeworld of Hiigara. But as the challenges grew more perilous the need for larger and more powerful ships arose too.
The first of this new class of Capital Ships was the Destroyer. This vessel type was a notorious workhorse of a battle ship, equipped with kinetic and ion cannons that could massacre most smaller vessels and even put up a good fight against the larger Taiidan warships.
Yet, the standard destroyer wasn’t enough. The Taiidan would eventually unleash their own advanced Missile Destroyers, sending the Kushan scurrying for the development of their own take on the concept. Like all of their ships, the Kushan Missile Destroyer wasn’t as advanced as their counterparts, but was reliable and sturdy.
I think both models are quite simple and easy to put together, containing 15 and 34 parts respectively, plus the bases. The Missile Destroyers may seem a bit more complicated but the missile pods are essentially boxes that lay on the base 1x3 plate. When you realize this it becomes not much more complex than the baseline Destroyer.
Yet, the destroyers weren’t the pinacle of Kushan firepower. That honor went to the final development of Exile warships — the mighty Heavy Cruiser. Large, well armed, and well armored, these vessels were rare, but also the spearhead of Kushan battle formations. The Taiidan counterpart could have been even more powerful but in general they were good matches to each other.
The model is slightly more elaborated than the Destroyers, with two large sponsons on the side of a simple, yet solid, keel. The front and the engines then fit in the whole. This takes 30 parts plus the base.
However, the greatest achievement for the Kushan during the war was probably the Carrier. Such vessels were already being devised before the launching of the Mothership as a fleet support vessel to enhance ship production and resource gathering. As the Taiidan threat materialized these ships became even more necessary.
They are engineering miracles, able to produce most ships except for the larger ones, able to service entire fighter wings, and able to support resourcing operations. They are also massive, even when compared to vessels from other civilizations.
This is a model that took me forever to make. Every attempt at emulating the shape of the ship at this scale failed in one way or the other. I had already made a larger model, but the perks of a bigger scale helped me in that one. After a couple weeks I finally managed something I was happy with. It takes 31 parts plus the base.
Mighty as the carriers were, the true pride of the Kushan fleet, the core of their hopes and strategy, was the Mothership. The construction of this massive vessel started shortly after the discovery of the Guidestone and took one hundred years to complete. It is at the same time a colony ship, a factory, a command center, and a warship, so complex that the creator of the Fleet Command system had to be enclosed at the ships core to use her brain as the living computer that would make everything work together.
In a more meta sense, this is the face of the franchise, the most recognizable ship of them all. I truly hope I managed to emulate its unique banana shape as it was kinda easy to put together. It takes 29 parts and it does stand out in the middle of your fleet.
It was a blast to put this fleet together. I couldn’t have done it without ThatBroDad — he has helped me throughout the whole series and you’ll see some of the creations he made to help me out in future posts. Go check his Flickr page to see the awesome stuff he does with constructions bricks.
And I do hope you’be enjoyed it. Next up I’ll share some listings for Grimdark Future Warfleets and Intercept Orbit for the fleets you’ve already seen and then the Taiidan will arrive. Some other posts may happen in the meanwhile for the other series but I like to mix things up a bit.
Let me know which series you prefer and if you would like me to invest more time in one or the other. Visit my Ko-fi account to check other stuff and see updates.
For now go out there play games and enjoy your lives!
