“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” ~Thomas Edison.

In this article, I gathered a list of opportunities for undergraduate females in tech in North America.

This post is the third part of a first article, and a second one, that contain a list of opportunities for all undergraduates and for undergraduate students from minorities in North America.

Scholarships and Awards Opportunities:

Program Opportunities:

  • Rewriting the Code membership: The Rewriting the Code community is a virtual community open to all current college women pursuing degrees that will lead to careers in technology and engineering. RTC provides several different opportunities throughout the year.
  • Rewriting the Code fellowship: This is a year-long program that offers several benefits for students (industry exploration, networking, peer coaching, mentoring with industry leaders, summer internships or full-time jobs). The program is open to female student in a U.S. or Canadian college or university in a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Blackstone’s Future Women Innovators Program is a 1.5 day program open to current freshman and sophomore women. It is full of seminars and sessions and gives participants early exposure to technology and business.
  • SQUARE Code Camp is a five day immersion program for female students.

Conferences, events and summits opportunities:

  • WECode (Women Engineers Code) conference offers
scholarships opportunities to cover the expenses of the conference ticket and travel up to $100/student.
  • MongoDB Women in Computer Science Summit is a day full with technical workshops, professional development activities, and networking for female undergraduates studying computer science in US/Canada. MongoDB provides round trip transportation, lodging and food. (2019 edition).
  • GHC scholarships: Grace Hopper Celebration is the largest conference for women in tech. It provides several scholarship programs for women to attend the conference.
  • CRA-WP Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) Research Scholars Program sponsors undergraduate females to attend GHC with an interest in research.

There is even more opportunities and events for women in computing; like the ACM Canadian Celebration of women in computing, the NCWIT Collegiate Award, the Opterus scholarships, the SANS Security Training Scholarship, the Built By Girls wave, the Amazon WOW program, the Laidlaw foundation scholars program, and the WIT project.

There is also a growing number of female communities, like Women in AI, Women in Machine Learning, Women in Data Science and Women Techmakers. Although some are not dedicated for students, it is always a good idea to get in touch with females from your area of interest.

Finally, there is also more CRA-WP scholarships and awards for underpresented groups in Computing research. You should also look at part2 of the World Of Opportunities series for more opportunities for students from minority groups in tech.

Final Notes:

  • In case I come across some new opportunity for female undergraduates in North America, I will make sure to update this article.
  • You can look here for interesting opportunities for undergraduates, and here for opportunities for undergraduates from minority groups in tech.
  • I intend to release a forth part of the ‘World Of Opportunities’ series for graduate students in North America, so consider following to be notified.
  • If you are interested in attending GHC (Grace Hopper Celebration), look here.
  • Students in EMEA(Europe, the Middle East and Africa) should check this article.
