A World Of Opportunities for Undergraduates — Women (Part 3)

In this article, I gathered a list of opportunities for undergraduate females in tech in North America.
This post is the third part of a first article, and a second one, that contain a list of opportunities for all undergraduates and for undergraduate students from minorities in North America.
Scholarships and Awards Opportunities:
- Scholarships for Women Studying Information Security (SWSIS) are $5,000 to $10,000 scholarships to women studying for their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in fields relating to Information Security.
- Palantir ‘s Women In Technology Scholarship (North America) Recipients will be invited to visit Palantir’s office in Palo Alto for a full-day, all-expenses paid developmental workshop. They will also be awarded grants of $7,000 to support their education. Eligible students should be undergraduate female students (freshman, sophomore, or junior) enrolled in an accredited U.S., Canadian or Mexican college/university studying in STEM fields.
- Influenster women in STEM Scholarship chooses five US legal residents female students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a technical field of study. Each receives an academic scholarship of $1,000 for the spring semester.
- Dr. Adawia Alousi STEM Scholarship Fund for Muslim Women funds undergraduate and graduate Muslim American women in US in a STEM field.
- The Lila Fahlman Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate and graduate female Muslim Canadian citizens or a permanent residents of Canada.
- The Women’s STEM Award is awarded for Bachelor or Master thesis by female students from all over the world in the following areas (Cloud, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Networks of the Future.)
- Adobe Research Women in Technology Scholarship is a 10,000$ scholarship for female undergraduates or master’s students in artificial intelligence/machine learning, data science, computer science or mobile/web development in US, Canada and Mexico.
- AnitB Pass it On Awards are cash awards to help women in computing. There is a moral obligation to pass on the benefits in this award.
- The VMware Achieve scholarship is a $10,000 USD award to a US female student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related.
Program Opportunities:
- Rewriting the Code membership: The Rewriting the Code community is a virtual community open to all current college women pursuing degrees that will lead to careers in technology and engineering. RTC provides several different opportunities throughout the year.
- Rewriting the Code fellowship: This is a year-long program that offers several benefits for students (industry exploration, networking, peer coaching, mentoring with industry leaders, summer internships or full-time jobs). The program is open to female student in a U.S. or Canadian college or university in a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
- Blackstone’s Future Women Innovators Program is a 1.5 day program open to current freshman and sophomore women. It is full of seminars and sessions and gives participants early exposure to technology and business.
- SQUARE Code Camp is a five day immersion program for female students.
Conferences, events and summits opportunities:
- WECode (Women Engineers Code) conference offers
scholarships opportunities to cover the expenses of the conference ticket and travel up to $100/student. - MongoDB Women in Computer Science Summit is a day full with technical workshops, professional development activities, and networking for female undergraduates studying computer science in US/Canada. MongoDB provides round trip transportation, lodging and food. (2019 edition).
- GHC scholarships: Grace Hopper Celebration is the largest conference for women in tech. It provides several scholarship programs for women to attend the conference.
- CRA-WP Grace Hopper Celebration (GHC) Research Scholars Program sponsors undergraduate females to attend GHC with an interest in research.
There is even more opportunities and events for women in computing; like the ACM Canadian Celebration of women in computing, the NCWIT Collegiate Award, the Opterus scholarships, the SANS Security Training Scholarship, the Built By Girls wave, the Amazon WOW program, the Laidlaw foundation scholars program, and the WIT project.
There is also a growing number of female communities, like Women in AI, Women in Machine Learning, Women in Data Science and Women Techmakers. Although some are not dedicated for students, it is always a good idea to get in touch with females from your area of interest.
