This is a continuation of JF Danskin’s The Burned Village, a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition.” Head back to the previous chapter here. Find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

You run from the scene of the crime, then conceal yourself in a shadowy doorway to count your earnings.

The purse contains: 12 gold coins, a silver ring with a sapphire gemstone, a small, smooth, black runestone, and three shriveled mushrooms. You do not recognize the species.

Pleased with one out of the four, you head towards the nearest and shadiest moneychanger.

You place the silver ring on the counter, ready to bargain hard.

“Wait… I know that ring! THIEF!

The moneychanger has caught you with stolen goods. He pulls out a club and vaults over the counter towards you.

Choices:

  1. You take out your axe and fight the moneychanger.
  2. You grab the ring back and run.
  3. You try to talk your way out of a fight.
