Tutorial: Swapping & Moving Assets via Osmosis

So, you are a Cosmonaut now and you held some ATOM. As you learn more into the Cosmos projects and ecosystem, you might find one or two projects that interest you. But how to get the tokens? Where to buy it?

As the biggest DEX in Cosmos, Osmosis has been considered as an entrance to navigate into the Cosmos ecosystem. Users can easily swap tokens and move their assets from/to Osmosis.

This tutorial will show you how to swap and move your assets. We will use OSMO and ATOM tokens for example.

Note: You can follow the same process for other tokens in the Cosmos networks, as long as the token is supported by Osmosis.

Prerequisites

1. Create Keplr Wallet.
2. Deposit ATOM to your Keplr Wallet.

Guide 1: Depositing ATOM to Osmosis from Cosmos Hub

• Open https://app.osmosis.zone/.
• Connect your Keplr Wallet.

• Go to the “Assets” tab.
• Find $ATOM token, and click “Deposit”.

• A pop-up page will appear. The address will be automatically generated.
• Select the amount — Click “Deposit ATOM”.

• Another pop-up will appear. Here you can double-check the transfer amount and set the fee.
• If everything seems to be in order, click “Approve”.

• Done! Upon successful transfer, your ATOM will appear on the Osmosis Assets list.

Guide 2: Swapping Tokens

• On the left tab — Choose “Swap”.
• Select the tokens you wish to swap.
• Enter the amount — Click “Swap”.

Note: You can set the slippage tolerance for the transactions. The standard setting would be 1%. Slippage tolerance means that your transaction will revert if the price changes unfavorably by more than this percentage.

• A pop-up window will appear. Recheck the transaction and select the fee.
• Confirm the transaction by clicking “Approve”.

• As simple as that, your token is successfully swapped.
• To check the assets — Click the “Assets” tab.
• Voila, your token will appear in the asset list.

Guide 3: Withdrawing ATOM from Osmosis to Cosmos Hub

• Go to the “Assets” tab.
• Find $ATOM token, and click “Withdraw”

• A pop-up page will appear. The address will be automatically generated.
• Enter the amount — Click “Withdraw ATOM”.

• Another pop-up will appear. Here you can double-check the transfer amount and select the fee.
• When all information is correct, click “Approve”.

• Done! You’ve successfully sent back your ATOM from the Osmosis chain to the Cosmos Hub chain
• The Cosmos Hub balance can be checked through Keplr Wallet.
