Personalized Recommendations: Coffees Tailored to You

Earlier this month we announced Ratings: Remember the Coffees You Love, and then The Brew Log: Your Coffee Palate, Visualized. This third announcement builds upon both.

There’s something to be said for serendipity. A new or surprising experience can be unexpectedly gratifying — whether that’s tasting an extraordinary coffee or happening upon a delightful cafe you never knew was down that side street. But it can also backfire — blind dates can bomb, and Harry Potter fans know unusual jelly beans can be… unsettling.

When it comes to coffee, as with many things in life, there is a golden mean between serendipity and predictability. Today, we’re bringing together the best of both, thanks to the variety of coffees offered on Crema.co, and our ability to learn from what you drink.

Variety, the spice of life

Crema.co already offers coffee drinkers a wide variety of single-origin coffees to choose from — currently around 50 coffees from 15 roasters, and both numbers are growing every month — making us a truly unique online coffee destination.

Your coffee palate

Last week we announced the Brew Log, an ever-evolving snapshot of your coffee palate that analyzes the underlying characteristics of the coffees you like, from the flavors and aromas, to roasting styles and origins. This gives us a unique insight into your personal taste profile.

Introducing: Recommendations

Today, we’re taking it to the next level with recommendations.

Not only can you access a wide selection of coffees in one place, but you can now tap into suggestions for which coffees you’ll like, all based on a deep understanding of your personal coffee preferences.

It’s serendipity, with a guide.

How it works

Customers who have ordered at least one bag of coffee through Crema.co can now access coffee recommendations presented in a series of themed groups, including:

  • Top picks for you
  • Your favorite tasting notes
  • Your favorite roast profile
  • Your favorite countries of origin
  • Your favorite certifications
  • Decaf coffees, if you’ve shown interest
  • Natural processed coffees, if you’ve shown interest

In other words, you may see recommendations for coffees with fruity taste notes, that are medium roast, that come from Ethiopia, or are certified organic, decaf, or natural processed—all driven by what your Brew Log has observed about your personal coffee preferences.

Your (smarter) coffee marketplace

When we started Crema.co in 2015, we set out to create the coffee marketplace of the future by connecting coffee drinkers, roasters, and growers like never before. This month, we’ve made that platform even smarter with ratings, the Brew Log, and recommendations. And we have so much more in store for the future.
