Re-inventing ourselves is the most important skill nowadays. I’m re-inventing myself by improving in 15 areas at a time. This post is part of my Re Human project.

Daily Habits

Books: Today I finished Atomic Habits. If you haven’t read James Clear’s blog or if you have, I recommend both his blog and the book. Then I started The Selfish Gene. It’s one of those books that are regarded as “one of the greats” but I hadn’t read it because I thought I understood the premise: most of our actions are determined by our genes. But I’ve heard from friends that there’s so much more in the book. So I’m excited for it. Some notes from today:

Make habits obvious, attractive, easy, satisfying. Can use inverse to stop bad habits.

In the long run, we become a product of our environment. (Relationships included)

Genes don’t determine your destiny, they determine your areas of opportunity. Choose the habit that most suits you, not the most popular one.

If you can’t win by being better, win by being different. Create your area. Combine skills.

One of the main points of the book is that we should not derive our values from Darwinism / evolution / genes. We can think about what’s actually better.

Writing: This post, code, and a daily thought.

Re Human Extended Activity: Thursdays is Music Production.

The “nobody tells this to beginners” video is so right. What drives me to learn music production is my taste — I just really enjoy good music. But it’s tough because the “gap” between my skills and my taste is very far.

But thanks to practicing music production 3 times per week I’m slowly closing that gap.

Today I spent some time analyzing other artist’s production.

Then I spent some time in Splice and then in Soundcloud trying to find sounds and songs that I’d like to use or emulate. I felt like making a mix of a Salsa song so I remembered this awesome but not so popular song, Vente Negra, and downloaded an mp3 version of it. Started by changing its tempo. Haven’t figured out adding stop on top of it that sounds nice.

Fitness: My warmup, handstands, human flag practice.

Meditation: 20mins in the morning, no Muse headband today.

Piano: Been learning La La Land’s Sebastian and Mia’s theme. Enjoying learning an actual song in full (in contrast to learning chords, reading notes, etc. but that was also super useful).

Soccer trick juggling: I find this habit pretty awesome for unwinding.

Connections, takeaways and Ideas for tomorrow

“Success isn’t a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire.” — Arnold H. Glasow

Today I found this Salsa artist (Spotify link) — I really liked her stuff. Modern salsa.
