Last week we announced the MAINGEAR LIV (Prototype), and modern, portable, and inexpensive ventilator designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reaction from our community and the press has been absolutely amazing, and I wanted to give you all some insight into this project.

The MAINGEAR LIV project began with Rahul Sood, Chairman of the Board of MAINGEAR and co-founder of Unikrn, reaching out to me in order to find a way for us to use our talent, expertise, and vast network to help address the shortage of ventilators currently impacting the country. We both live in areas that have been massively affected by this pandemic and wanted to see what we could do to help. …

As the CEO of MAINGEAR, a custom PC manufacturer, I hear a lot of feedback from our clientele about both our own products, and those of our peers and competitors. Lately, that discussion has largely been focused around Apple and the launch of their long-awaiting new pro desktop.

Before diving in, I see it important to preface things with a bit of a disclaimer. This editorial is in no way intended to be a shot at our friends in Cupertino. When it comes to Apple, I’ve always respected the impact they’ve had on our industry. There is no denying the pure brilliance in Apple’s innovations over the years, be it the introduction of the click mouse in 1982, the pocket friendly portable music player that changed the entire landscape of the recording industry in 2001, or the iPhone in 2006 that set the tone for every smartphone to follow to this day. …

In this 4 part video series, the LTT team anonymously purchased PCs from MAINGEAR, Origin, CyberPower, iBuyPower, HP and Dell. Some companies performed poorly, some did OK, while MAINGEAR was simply amazing! By purchasing the systems anonymously, the team at LTT was able to take an unbiased look at the real experience any regular customer would have. The video series is broken up into four different parts where they highlight the “purchasing experience”, “shipping/out-of-box experience”, “customer support experience” and overall “build quality + performance/value”. These videos, together, have accumulated over 5.5 million views and it’s still climbing.

Overall MAINGEAR came out the winner in the series, essentially nailing the customer experience from beginning to the end — losing only in part 4 where they talked about the performance-per-dollar, which was expected since we’re not the cheapest. Now let’s break it…

In 2002 I was able to turn my passion for both PC gaming and motorsports into a business; from the desire to succeed at both, MAINGEAR was born. With very limited resources while literally working out of a garage, our little startup stood out by employing the type of discipline, aesthetics, and purpose-built design that drives success in motorsports, whether it’s on or off the race track. Our goal was to make PC gaming better by building better PCs.

Over these years, we have built an amazing community of people that share the same passion. From our loyal customers to our passionate fans, I owe a lot of the success over these years to you, and I consider each one of you part of the MAINGEAR family. That is why when I was faced with looking at options to help with our ambitious plans to grow I decided to go with Netcapital. By opening MAINGEAR’s equity to that same community, I was able to give you all the chance to invest in a piece of our company that started in New Jersey in 2002 with zero funding. I’m excited to invite the people that have been with us since the start to join us on the next stage of our journey and own a piece of the future of PC gaming. This move took a lot of people by surprise but so far we have raised almost a quarter of a million dollars with your support and I’m incredibly humbled by this whole experience. …

Last week I announced our partnership with Netcapital where we opened up MAINGEAR for equity. This move took a lot of people by surprise and quite frankly the idea came from some terrible experiences that I had trying to work with VCs. To be fair not all VCs are the same, but the group I happened to deal with left a sour taste in my mouth. So, in expressing my frustrations with my friend and business partner Rahul Sood, we had an epiphany! Why not offer equity in MAINGEAR to the community? Fast forward a few months later and now we’re live! …

With very limited resources, and literally working out of a garage, our little startup stood out by employing the type of discipline, aesthetics, and purpose-built design that drives success in motorsports, whether it’s on or off the race track. Many of our “firsts” can easily be traced directly to that world: we were one of the first PC companies to offer automotive paint finishes, the first to offer overclocked and liquid-cooled PCs, as well as the first to offer PCs with vertical heat dissipation. Our goal was simple, make PC gaming better by building better PCs.

Fast forward to 2018, and today we build the best gaming PCs on earth! But don’t just take my word for it, check out what the media thinks of our newly released F131 gaming PC here, here and here. Over the last few years PC gaming and eSports has become hottest thing that everyone’s talking about, and MAINGEAR is at the center of it. …
