Hi! My name is John Henry Patton, l’m from the lush green land of Scotland, specifically the ‘not so lush’ city of Glasgow. In the year 2000 at the tender age of 18 l decided to do something crazy (as 18 year olds do!) and l moved to Spain. I now reside in Valencia on the east coast of Spain just 10 minutes walk from the Mediterranean Sea.
I have a BA (hons) English Language and Literature and for the last 10 years l have been working in an International Baccalaureate School here in Valencia. As you can imagine, l teach two different yet obviously related subjects, English Language Acquisition (English as a Foreign Language) and also English Language and Literature, how very strange! I get to spend my time doing what l love most, teaching, reading and writing.
My goals on Medium are to expand my writing circle, collaborate with others, learn from my readers and create better texts. In life we must be positive, so l’m sure that this aim is achievable.
What do l like to write? A plethora of different styles, novels, short stories, poetry, plays, book reviews and all things linguistic.
Literature…that wonderful artistic form with words! My favourite genre is dystopian novels (funny that with the way the world is going!) and yes, before anyone asks, by far my favourite book is 1984 by Orwell, with Brave New World and Fahrenheit 451 a close 2nd and 3rd. That said, l will read anything. I also have a soft spot for Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier…ah the curse of the Gothic novel.
