I’m from the northern United States, but I followed an amazing man to the Deep Southern portion. All my life I wanted to be a wife and mom of many kiddos, a professional mom. We stopped after the fifth one and have raised them all, loving every minute.
A lot of folks have asked me if I work. I must look like a lazy bum.
I usually reply, “Of course, I work,” and leave it at that, unless they pry. Sometimes I add, “I’m a woman.” I let them figure it out. Eventually they realize I know what they mean and they need to think more about the question.
To those who are polite and just need to know my work phone number for check-writing purposes, I used to say, “My husband and I manage a home and school for kids who would otherwise be homeless. The phone number is the same.” The awe factor from that answer is priceless.
Since our youngest is in his thirties, nowadays I just say that I’m a retired educator and look at them. The fear in their eyes is amusing. Who messes with someone who’s survived teaching, these days?
They never guess we home-educated our own kids.
My goals on Medium are to establish a place to procrastiwrite while I avoid taking valid steps to figure out my website, which seriously needs work! Turns out I can make about ten to twenty dollars a month doing nothing much, here. Kinda fun, but won’t pay the light bill.
I was going to be on Medium for only a short while, to learn how to manage a publication, and to make myself one more outlet for my writing. I will get there someday, but right now, just having fun, enjoying life, etc.
My husband is a retired forester. You can read more about him here and here. We hang out a lot, still in love, those folks you see who seem to enjoy shopping together. Our kids are all college graduates, employed, having fun lives, etc., and have given us 17 grandchildren.
What makes me unique, I’m not sure. People tell me I think too much. I suppose thinking is unique to them. To me, my thinking seems just the right amount. Sometimes, when I ask my husband what he’s thinking about, he will tell me, “Oh, nothing.” How that could be possible is unimaginable to me.
I guess it’s unique that I seem unable to take any of the personality tests, because when I’m taking the test, it seems to me as if my personality changes to fit the test questions, It’s very confusing and frustrating to me! I wrote a humor piece about that here.
Mostly, on Medium, I write about Christian truths. There’s generic poetry thrown in and some humor. I love to write humor, but I know it can get old, so I try not to overdo it. As a counselor, I can’t seem to avoid writing some light counseling. Sometimes I write about writing.

My most important topic, though, in my opinion, I have not worked with, on Medium. I love writing about marriage, how it works, and what happens when it doesn’t work. I’ve also written volumes about child raising and about overcoming the pain of unfair treatment. Elsewhere.
I cannot tell why all that topic writing of mine appears elsewhere. I suppose I imagine it’s not welcome on Medium, but I’ve never tested it. I’m saving all that writing for my own publication, which I’m midway to announcing soon. I’ll be sure to create an announcement post here, when it goes up.
