Drinking hot chocolate with the moon; wrapped in patchwork on the edge of dreams
Maybe a loving way to write about your life is to first unfold it delicately like a handmade quilt from grandma’s hope chest. You can smooth it out across the floor and choose a little fabric window to gaze into. Or, you can wrap yourself up in it, cozy under the stars. Feel the colors, the layers, and the pattern of stitches. Are there stories in these patchwork memories? Maybe their purpose is just a spot to touch; a soft reminder of life lived and dreams awaiting their fruition.
Here is what my patchwork quilt looks like:
- My first quilt square has a plump bluebird singing in an orange tree with the ocean and sun sparkling behind it. I grew up in a place with a bountiful history of orange groves, Disneyland, beaches, and magic. My favorite color was blue and I remember flying happy and carefree. My mom and dad are both wonderfully creative and my brother is an amazing musician. Twiddle-dee tweet-tweet!
- My second quilt square has an antique book on the cover. It’s like the book you’d think of if The Never Ending…
