About Me — Lekha Roy
Hello, I’m writing. Yes, ‘writing’ is literally the meaning of my first name.
I usually do not introduce myself like this. I have been teased far too many times by those who already know the meaning of my name.
It doesn’t sound funny when you’ve been hearing “Hey Lekha! Tor lekha sesh holo?” (“Hey Writing! Have you finished your writing?”) all your life.
So yes, I don’t go around telling people “Hey I’m writing! Do you want to hear about why I have this weird name?”.
However, I thought this story would be appreciated here.
I was born in Kolkata on 13th February 1997.
It was just two days after Saraswati Puja which is a very popular Hindu festival in our region. In this festival, there’s a cleansing ritual where you apply turmeric paste mixed with mustard oil all over your body and then bathe in water.
My mother loves this festival and, of course, being 9 months pregnant did not stop her from celebrating it.
When I was born two days after this festival, I came out looking like a minion.
My skin looked so yellow that the doctors thought I had yellow fever. Of course, when the test results came out clean, the doctors were very puzzled.
