About Me — Limisus
From Challenge to Commitment
Hey there, I’m Limisus, but you can call me Lime, just like the fruit — it’s my online nickname I conjured up one day, and it’s stuck with me ever since. Currently based in the Netherlands, my roots trace back to Germany, where I was born and raised. Despite being a native German speaker, my obvious dark-skin West African features might throw you off the German scent a bit, but hey, diversity keeps life interesting, right?
A burning question I often get asked from strangers on the street is: “Where are you from?” And let me tell you, it’s not always been easy for me to answer that question. But living abroad has made it simpler. When a Dutch local asks, I simply say, “I’m German.” Yet, that tends to leave folks wanting more. So, I dive into the tale of being born in Germany to a Nigerian mother, who after coming to Europe to study mathematics, unfortunately lost her rights of motherhood and had to head back home — that is maybe a story for another time. Lucky for me, I found a new family through adoption at the ripe age of 2, and grew up with typically German parents, in the western part of the country. Culturally, I’m as “deutsche Kartoffel” as they come, but my appearance often sparks a game of guess-my-origins.
