About Me — Sarah McInnes
An introspective introvert talks about anxiety, beaches, parenting, neurodiversity, and her love of books and writing
Hello, I’m Sarah! I’d like to tell you about myself in the hopes of finding community and connecting with others. But it’s harder than it seems. I’ve made so many false starts in writing this.
“I contain multitudes.”
— Walt Whitman
Writing a story “About Me” becomes as much a question of what do I omit as it does about what do I include? What chapters of my life reveal the crux of who I am, and what bits are extraneous detail? On the other hand, maybe those important parts are too personal to dive into during an introduction. Maybe the little details, like my favorite ice-cream flavor, will keep the tone light and friendly.
What tone should I take? My writing tends to be serious and introspective. That’s who I am, but that is not all I am. I am also fun, silly, and playful. It’s a side of me usually seen only by my family. I recently posted a video reel of myself singing a song to promote my newsletter. I felt nervous, not about singing on social media, but about showing that playful side of myself.
