about Music: Element 1: Pitch (Part 2)

1.2 Music is supposed to stir the emotions, and today, here are the promised five compositions, guaranteed to stir your emotions!

Musicians use various methods to produce different pitches, depending on the instrument or voice they are playing. For example, on a piano, each key produces a specific pitch. The more the key is to the right hand side of the keyboard, the higher the pitch.

On a guitar or violin, the pitch is determined by the length of the vibrating string. Shorter strings produce higher pitches, while longer strings produce lower pitches. The performer presses their fingers on the string at different places to shorten or lengthen it. On a wind instrument, the pitch is determined by the length of the air column inside the instrument. Longer columns produce lower pitches, while shorter columns produce higher pitches. On a percussion instrument, such as a drum, the pitch is determined by the size and tension of the drumhead. Larger drums produce lower pitches, while smaller drums produce higher pitches. (Did you know that drums can also produce pitches?)
