I am crossing the United States using Google Street View. Starting from the easternmost point on the U.S. mainland — West Quoddy Head, Maine — I am clicking my way west using only the Street View interface. As with real-life road trips, I expect to encounter people, places, and history worth writing about. Two twists: (1) I’m American, but live in Rwanda*; what will catch my ex-pat eyes? (2) Though my travel is virtual, it eschews the constant Tweeting, Facebooking, and 24-hour-news-cycling of the internet today. But rather than long-form journalism, this blog represents “long-form internet use.” What can we find out about — and in — America when we use our digital tools in the long form? [*Part way through my trip I relocated to the U.S.]
