From new integrations and features to redesigning the AirGap Vault, the past year has been an exciting one for us and for everyone who followed our advice on the need for self-custody. Though 2022 has been a turmoil for the crypto sphere as the bear market continues and tons of users lost their assets due to the bankruptcy of several centralized institutions.
While promoting the necessity of self-custody was one of our main goals for 2022, we also accelerated the speed of our product development and innovation, resulting in the release of more than 20 new features and integrations.
In this short post, we take a look at just some of our achievements during 2022. This list is not exhaustive as we only highlighted the ones with more traction.
AirGap has seen a huge growth of users in the year 2022 and every day more people learn about the solution.
December 2021/January 2022
We added support for Tezos-based NFTs on December 16th, and we are convinced of these seven reasons AirGap should be your number one wallet for storing your NFTs.
February 2022
On February 15th, we announced the MetaMask browser extension support. Aside from security, we’ve been working hard on the usability and interoperability of the AirGap Vault.
Many people liked the idea, making us push further for more interoperability in the coming months. Find an overview of all the supported wallets here.
March 2022
On March 30th, we announced the integration of Astar Network. A blockchain that supports the building of dApps with EVM and WASM smart contracts and offers developers true interoperability with cross-consensus messaging.
Towards the end of March, we participated in the MetaMask community call, where we joined some other solutions to preach the need for a cold wallet to over 11,000 participants. This was a great opportunity for us and helped us to grow our user base even further. Find the full MetaMask Community Call video here.
April 2022
On the 12th of April, we announced the integration of Shiden. A public pre-production environment for Astar. We also integrated dogami 🐶 and uBTC and a couple of other FA1.2/FA2 tokens.
May / June / July 2022
By May, we had started planning and looking into redesigning AirGap. After 5 years we could see that we needed face-lifting. This process took a few months to get fully implemented.
Furthermore, in those months we made sure that AirGap Vault was reproducible. This means that the app downloaded from the Play Store matches the source code that is published on GitHub. An independent website WalletScrutiny examined the AirGap Vault and determined its reproducibility. Which makes AirGap one of the few wallets to be marked as “reproducible”.
August / October 2022
On the 28th of August, we announced the release of dark mode in AirGap Wallet. It was our first-ever community contribution. To us, it was a sign that our community was growing. The community requested it and the community brought the code.
September 2022
Our journey for interoperability continues as we announce the support for MetaMask Mobile, Rabby Wallet, Sparrow Wallet, Blue Wallet, and Spectre.

October 2022
Remember the redesign we mentioned that we started looking into during May? It was finalized, and it was announced on the 18th of October. We not only facelifted the logos of our product, but we also improved the UX and added better onboarding. We are still working hard on making AirGap accessible and easy to use for all our users.

In mid-October, we also added support for the Morpheus Network (MNW token). The Morpheus Network is an award-winning supply chain management platform dedicated to assisting companies with digitizing, streamlining, and automating their supply chain operations. November/December 2022
On the 3rd of November, announced the support for Tezos sapling on ghostnet. Sapling introduces privacy-preserving transactions to the tezos blockchain.
