Hey there courageous soul — do you feel like this whole blockchain and cryptocurrency thing can get quite overwhelming at times?

Despair no more, as we’ve all been there — and managed to pull through this valley of anguish!

In today’s post I’d love to share some of the best resources that have helped me a great deal in properly understanding this mystic and cryptic (pun intended) topic that is blockchain.

As blockchain technology becomes more mainstream and an increasing number of people, journals and websites are talking about it, I have the feeling like at the same time there is still a great deal on uncertainty and a lack of sound knowledge surrounding it.

One does not need to be mathematical prodigy, a prolific cryptographer or mastermind programmer in order to properly understand the inner workings of blockchain and its groundbreaking potential.

Without further ado, here is a list of resources that’ll surely help you to step up your blockchain game — no matter if you’re a novice or seasoned blockchain connoisseur.

The Resources

This list comprises mainly books, but there is also one truly remarkable podcast featured. I’ll provide a brief and comprehensive overview to each resource and will link to a more exhaustive review, just in case that you’re enticed and what to get to know more!

Let’s get going.

“Digital Gold” by Nathaniel Popper

We will start this list with a wonderful and very well written account of the untold story of Bitcoin — “Digital Gold” by Nathaniel Popper.

It is a great and very well written account of the history behind Bitcoin (and therefore the first blockchain). What really makes this book stand out, is the narrative quality in which it is written. Based on over 300 individual interviews that Popper conducted with the most important people that played a role in the upbringing of this new technology, it provides a rare and unique insight into the very human stories behind it.

Poppers does a magnificent job of demonstrating the philosophical world in which Bitcoin was born into. Exploring the interesting crypto-anarchy lands that intermingled with libertarians, the ideological framework is greatly explained.

“The Truth Machine” by Michael J Casey & Paul Vigna

Source

“The Truth Machine” by Michael J Casey and Paul Vigna is one of the best and most comprehensive books on blockchain and the greater picture is has to been seen and understood within, that I’ve stumbled upon so far!

The extraordinary ease of reading, coupled with the unique contextualization of the greater scheme in which this new technological paradigm is analyzed, make this book an absolute must-read. Instead of only focusing on the fundamental economic change that this technology enables, it provides the reader with a thorough understanding about the essential importance of suddenly having a tool that facilitates the approximation of “trust” and “truth” at our disposal.

“Views differ on bitcoin, but few doubt the transformative potential of Blockchain technology. The Truth Machine is the best book so far on what has happened and what may come along. It demands the attention of anyone concerned with our economic future.”

— Lawrence H. Summers, President Emeritus at Harvard, Former Treasury Secretary

“Blockchain Revolution” by Don & Alex Tapscott

Source

“Blockchain Revolution” by Don and Alex Tapscott is a very well written and thorough book that explores the potential consequences of this new technology in the business dimension.

It is at times a rather sophisticated and somewhat technical book, yet if you’re interested yourself in exploring all the potential ways in which blockchain could disrupt the business world, this is the book for you!

All throughout the book the two authors delve into the many different ways in which industries such as finance, healthcare, education and many more will be changed. The potential advances in governance and law are explored as well.

“Blockchain Innovation” by Frederick Munawa

Source

“Blockchain Innovation” is an amazing podcast produced by the wonderful Frederick Munawa.

The concept of the podcast is pretty straightforward — Frederick frequently invites the brightest minds in blockchain onto his show and talks with them about a wide range of super duper interesting topics, ranging from the application of blockchain in Music, Real Estate, Artificial Intelligence, all the way to CryptoKitties and Identification.

What I absolutely adore is that Blockchain Innovation does not shy away from also exploring technical and legal dimensions in-depth, which is a rather unique feature when it comes to resources revolving around blockchain (as they tend to be either superficial on a meta level or super technical).

“Mastering Bitcoin” by Andreas Antonopoulos

Source

“Mastering Bitcoin” by Andreas Antonopoulos is a thorough and very in-depth explanation of everything Bitcoin.

Even though the book is mainly for programmers who want to build on top of Bitcoin, it also does a marvelous job at providing a broad introduction to the very first blockchain to have been created. No matter if you’re a developer, investor or simply interested non-technical reader, its a very comprehensive guide into the mysterious lands of blockchain.

It gives a well-rounded and very specific explanation of the technological and cryptographic technologies incorporated into Bitcoin, leaving the reader with a nuanced and fact-based understanding of the different aspects that go into powering this groundbreaking innovation.
