Hello everyone! Designer Benjo here again for a quick rundown of $SCRAP, the Battle Racers ERC20 token — plus news of an upcoming airdrop!

What is $SCRAP?

$SCRAP is an ERC20 token on the Matic Network sidechain. It is used to upgrade Parts and enter Competitive Races and Tournaments.

You can think of it as Battle Racers’ progression currency.

How is $SCRAP earned?

You can get $SCRAP from multiple sources:

  • Initial airdrop to Battle Racers NFT owners — yes, an airdrop!
  • Salvaging excess and duplicate parts
  • As a reward from racing

To celebrate our initial rollout of $SCRAP, we will airdrop 1 $SCRAP for every Part you own. Prior to the airdrop, we will take a snapshot of the addresses with owned Parts — more details on that soon. Hope you all have your parts ready, or if you don’t own any yet, then better start trading.

You can also earn $SCRAP from salvaging Parts. This is the process of burning the Part token and getting $SCRAP in return at the cost of losing that Part and its recorded history (coming soon).

The best way to earn $SCRAP within Battle Racers is simple: competitive racing! More on those in the next section.

We have other sources of $SCRAP planned in our development pipeline - stay tuned until then!

Where is $SCRAP used?

Once you earn $SCRAP, what can you do with it?

$SCRAP’s primary use is to upgrade Parts. As mentioned in an earlier sneak peek, Parts have levels that are tied to their rarity. Each level increases the stats on a Part (except Weight) by a percentage. The higher the rarity, the higher the level cap of the Part. $SCRAP is the cost of upgrading a Part through those levels, with the cost per level increasing the higher the current level.

Upgrading parts makes them better building blocks for more powerful championship-winning cars!

Aside from upgrading, $SCRAP will also be the entry fee for future Competitive Races and built-in Tournaments.

Currently in development, Competitive Races are tracks that can only be played using tickets, which can be bought with $SCRAP. These races have no AI and are only for players racing against other players, so a Competitive Race can only be started with two (2) or more players with tickets.

A few key things to know about Competitive Races::

  1. Competitive Races require an assembled car made of Parts that the player owns. If the player has no assembled car, they can’t compete. (Read about car customization here.)
  2. More players competing in a race means a bigger prize pool — and bigger $SCRAP rewards!
  3. $SCRAP earned from Competitive Races has a weekly cap per player. If a player maxes out their weekly cap, they can still race, but won’t earn more $SCRAP.

That’s it for now. Be sure to join our Discord for updates and further information on these features! Follow us here on Medium and please clap or share if you like this article.
