Since we first launched TOTP Authenticator in May 2018, we have been working on constantly improving the app to provide the best experience and features to our users.
We’re truly grateful to our users who use or have used our app. You inspire us to keep making this app better and better.
Our goal always has been to provide the best User Experience in the 2-factor authentication industry, helping make 2FA dead simple for everyone. But our cornerstone principle from day 1 has been to provide impeccable security.
We constantly try to analyze the user needs and how our app can fit in there. This at times is hard, as, to provide the complete security, we don’t collect any usage data. Like not at all. Thus it becomes difficult for us to analyze the user behaviour and needs, and how we can help serve them better.
From the user feedback and queries we receive via email, one thing we have realised is a lot of people face issues when they lose their phone data. This becomes a huge problem especially when the phone also acts as your 2FA device.
Another major thing we have observed is that 2FA can be a tedious process. Especially when carried out often. So we went to our think board and tried to create a solution which makes 2FA simpler than ever.
Thus we are proud to bring to you TOTP premium, which brings new and powerful solutions to the above problems:
1. Cloud Sync
2-Factor authentication can become a huge struggle when you lose your phone or need to switch devices. Losing access to your 2FA data without creating a proper backup can lock you out of your account, with the tedious process of contacting your service provider to restore the access.
And trust us, when we say this: a lot of people get locked out of their account because of the above. That’s why TOTP Authenticator has been providing the option to backup codes offline from the beginning. Despite this, we receive many emails from the users, regarding how they forgot to create a backup and thus got logged out of their account.
We concluded that we needed to provide an easier solution for users to backup their data but without any extra privacy concerns. This backup should be in a way that users can access their data easily, from anywhere. Thus, we are proud to announce the ‘Cloud Sync’ functionality, which empowers users to backup their data on their own Google Drive.
Using the Cloud Sync feature, you can backup your 2FA codes to your Google Drive by a single tap. This can be then accessed on any other device running the TOTP Authenticator. We save the data on your own Google Drive, so you are always in full control of your data.

Chrome Extension
One of the most frustrating aspects of 2-factor authentication is that there are very few solutions available to make this process simple on desktops. 2FA can be redundant at times. You need to manually type in the auth code and tally the code each time before you can log in.
So to make the 2FA simpler and easier for desktop users, we are launching our TOTP Authenticator Chrome Extension. You can use this extension to easily access and copy the 2FA codes to your desktop browser, without the need to manually enter the code each time. The extension can be downloaded here.
For best security, the codes and your keys still only exist on your mobile device. Using our Push to Chrome feature, you can push the required code to your desktop with a single tap. Sweet, right?

Why are these premium features paid?
We aim to provide the best experience and features for our end users. Therefore we do not show ads or collect any usage data. In fact, till now the app didn’t connect to the internet at all. But being a software development company, we felt that we need a proper revenue model for the app to make sure we can keep up the same good work.
Therefore we have released these advanced features as Premium for a minimal price. By purchasing the TOTP Premium, you can show your love for the app and the developer team, contributing to the long term future of the TOTP Authenticator.
What’s next?
We are developing many more highly demanded features in the near future.
This includes porting and releasing the Cloud Sync and Chrome Extension features for iOS devices. This is currently under development and should be released soon.
We are also working on adding a dark theme to the app and provide better linguistic support for the global community.
