Hello, Ethereum community! We’re excited to announce that we will be bringing Cartesi tech to not only one, not two, but five ETHGlobal hackathons this year with a total bounty prize of $50,000 USD!
We cannot wait to meet developers who love to experiment with the latest technology and challenge themselves to innovate. We look forward to seeing you build incredible DApps that will push the boundaries of what’s possible in blockchain technology.
Cartesi’s ETHGlobal Hackathon Challenge
Launch a MVP on Testnet/Mainnet
Develop a proof of decentralized concept application using Cartesi Rollups!
Be creative. We encourage you to build novel applications using this stack without any constraints. The easiest way to get started is to build off of the rollups examples — explore what can be built using Cartesi and these basic components.

ETH Lisbon May 12–14
Total bounty prize: $10,000 USD

We’re kicking off the year by going to Lisbon, known for its vibrant culture, beautiful architecture, and stunning waterfronts. It’s also a hub for innovation and technology, making it the perfect place to kick off the year and connect with like-minded individuals in the blockchain community.
ETH Paris Jul 21–23
Total bounty prize: $10,000 USD

🥇2nd Runner-up→ $3,000 USD
🎖️ Shared Pool → $2,000 USD (2 x $1,000)
Sticking to Europe, next on the list is Paris, with its rich history and world-renowned cuisine. While we’ll be sure to enjoy a pastry or two, we cannot wait to be inspired by all the developers and their innovative ideas for the next generation of DApps.
ETH New York Sept 22–24
Total bounty prize: $10,000 USD
What New York and our Core Contributors team going to these events have in common is that they both never sleep (though please take care of yourself!). We’re harnessing the enthusiasm of the Web3 community in New York to keep us awake during these 2 crazy days of BUIDLing.
ETH Online Oct 6–27
Total bounty prize: $10,000 USD
A community favorite event, for a good reason. Thousands of developers and creatives come together online to showcase their talents and build innovative projects in the blockchain space. We’ll be there, wearing our Cartesi t-shirt and sweatpants.
ETH Istanbul Nov 17–19
Total bounty prize: $10,000 USD
We end the year with Istanbul, a city that is both geographically and culturally unique as it straddles two continents. We’re thrilled to see the BUIDLing in action, as well as try out the street food from various street vendors.

Did you know that Cartesi tech allows you to build DApps without having to master Solidity? Cartesi allows you to build fully decentralized applications using the stacks and libraries you’re already familiar with — expanding the possibilities for all developers, whether you are a beginner or experienced in blockchain coding.

There are plenty of ideas to flesh out using Cartesi Rollups, including: games, social identity, governance, AI/ML, and utility. But don’t feel limited to this list! The options are endless and we cannot wait to see your creativity in action.
About Cartesi
Cartesi is an application-specific rollup with a Linux runtime. Cartesi’s RISC-V virtual machine allows developers to import decades of open-source wisdom to blockchain applications and build decentralized applications with their favorite libraries, compilers, and other time-tested open-source tooling.
- DApps are deployed on their own customizable application-specific rollup chains;
- DApps don’t compete with each other in Cartesi’s ecosystem for scarce blockspace;
- Cartesi provides Ethereum or L2’s with orders of magnitude more computational capacity;
- DApps preserve the strong security guarantees and censorship resistance of the underlying blockchain;
- Cartesi Rollups can be deployed as a layer 2 (on top of Ethereum), as a layer 3 (on top of Optimism, Arbitrum, zkEVM chains, etc.), or as sovereign rollups;
- Cartesi Rollups opens up the design space for more expressive and computationally intensive blockchain applications;
