Cartesi’s December 2022 Monthly Recap
Check out the updates you don’t want to miss.
December 31st, 2022 — keeping the builder momentum going straight through to 2023!
December saw us join not one, but two hackathons before the year’s end. From bringing Cartesi tech to over 2000 builders at ETH India, we also teamed up with SuperwomenDAO to host a Web3 party to kick off the activities of India Blockchain week in the lead up to the hackathon. Make sure to catch up with the highlights:
And of course, we didn’t stop there. We teamed up with our new ecosystem partner, Think & Dev for a hackathon in Buenos Aires, helping Web3 newcomers and veterans build bigger and even more powerful DApps with Cartesi tech.
If you’re itching to get started, well, there’s no need to wait. Check out Carlo’s ETH Global workshop replay and start diving into our developer documentation.
In between the festivities this holiday season, why not take 20 minutes to try running your first simple Echo-Python DApp example. Get started at learning how to build and interact with a minimalistic Cartesi Rollups application here.
To lead, support and push Cartesi’s mission to build a better future, we’re also thrilled to welcome four new talented individuals to the project. Get to know the newest contributors and why they chose Cartesi as their new home

Hello, Ultrachess update.
With Cartesi Labs’ grants, we’re fostering the growth of the Web3 movement at large and helping developers world over ignite their DApp development. In October, we announced the first fully on-chain chess application backed by Cartesi’s Rollup technology, Ultrachess. Ultrachess allows users to put real value on the line and play chess with more than just their Elo at stake.
For those eagerly awaiting updates, look no further. From what base features have been implemented and deployed on Cartesi’s Testnet, to exciting avenues currently being explored for future development, check it out
Development Updates
Did you already unwrap our latest development recap? Alongside a new release for Cartesi Rollups 0.8.0, which brought support for Cartesi DApp deployment on Optimism and Arbitrum L2 chains, there’s plenty more new and exciting updates to dive into:
Community Updates
We hosted our very first community call over on Discord! Gathering game developers building with Cartesi tech to show what they’re creating, we also invited the wider game developer community to join, ask questions and decide together on the next steps to take in fostering the Cartesi game-developer community.
We had a brilliant turnout and are excited to see our community grow even bigger in 2023! If you missed the session, make sure to follow us on our socials to keep up to date with when the next one is happening.
For all the non-developers in our community who still want to get involved, we ran a fun creative competition asking members to come up with a visual on why developers should #BuildWithCartesi. It was great to see the variety in entries — thank you to all who participated and congratulations to @FiatBubble for winning the community vote!

About Cartesi
Cartesi Rollups is a modular execution layer that elevates simple smart contracts to decentralized Linux runtimes. It allows developers to launch highly scalable rollup chains, and code decentralized logic with their favorite languages and software components.
- Every DApp has its own high-performing rollup chain;
- No cannibalization of resources from other DApps in Cartesi’s ecosystem;
- No network gentrification;
- Enable an entirely new class of DApps that currently cannot run on EVM chains;
- Preserve the strong security guarantees of the underlying blockchain
