This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. Head back to the previous instalment: ‘Wood and Steel’ by JF Danskin. Or go back to Chapter 1: “The Burned Village.” Find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

You hurry down the backstreets, looking for options. But the blacksmith shoos you away, as does big Okoom at the merchant’s guild.

Next you pause outside a disreputable moneychanger’s shop. A traveller has tied up a pony opposite. A longbow sits alongside. There could be more in the saddlebags…

As you step closer, a young woman grabs your arm. “Please, brave warrior… I beg you to help me!”

“Uhh… ‘sup?”

She glances at your axe, eyes fearful. “My sister, Helga. Her stinking husband beats her, and I’m certain he’s going to kill her tonight. I’m too scared… can you intervene?”

And so you…

  1. Agree to slay Helga’s husband (click here).
  2. Refuse, steal the bow, and flee (click here).

This is a collaborative story. Please feel free to join in and add a chapter, furthering the story in any way you like. Each main part of the story (not including choices and blurb) should be a 100-word drabble. Or drop suggestions in the comments!
