This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. The whole thing begins with ‘The Burned Village’. If you want to head back to the previous chapter, check out ‘Demands for Answers’, ‘A Plaintive Plea’, or ‘Merchants’ Guild’ by JF Danskin, or ‘A Lovely Chat’ by P. L. Goaway. And find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

You proceed towards the husband’s house, sniffing for his fabled stench.

(Or was that just trash talk?)

You see some shapes at the window. Is Helga dancing? And could that be the husband at the window, cleaning some plates?

You grip your axe. He’s the guy you’re to ‘take care of’.

But then you hesitate. What the heck are you doing…?

Okay, your people have been slaughtered, the survivors carted off by orcs. But does that give you the right to murder a stranger? To execute this man without trial?

You pause, the moon shining down, and reassess your options…

You decide to…

  1. Proceed to enter the house and confront Helga’s husband (click here).
