However you justify the act, you are killing these two people. Decision made.

You heft the axe above your head and take a step forward.

SNAP!

A broken branch brings both their attention to you, standing frozen mid-swing.

Now they have seen your face, there is another reason not to relent.

You close your eyes and bring the axe down, then across in a wide sweeping motion.

There is resistance, then the blade slices through.

After a moment, silence once again reigns and you open your eyes.

The man and child lay motionless at your feet.

You did this.
