This is a continuation of The Burned Village, a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition,” initially created by JF Danskin. Head back to the previous chapter here or find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

You observe the pair for a moment, silently, axe raised.

The man has a bloody rag over one eye — a sickly injury. The child is a young girl. Her leg is wounded; a broken arrow protrudes from a hastily-bandaged puncture.

“I miss Momma,” you hear the girl sob quietly into the man’s chest. The man only nods, stroking the girl’s hair.

“Hush, child…”

Their longing brings back memories of your own family, stolen from you by the orcs!

This duo surely pulls at your heartstrings, but then you notice three sticks warming in the fire — sticks with squirrel meat!

Do you:

  1. Put them out of their misery and take their food? (Click here).
  2. Lower your weapon and step into the light? (Click here)
  3. Leave the way you came? (Click here).

Life was simpler back in the village. None of these “pesky” moral choices! Thanks to JF Danskin, John Fanidis and Mojave Green for inspiring me to contribute to this amazing story!
