This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. You can find chapter 1 of this story here: The Burned Village. Or check out the previous chapter: ‘A Key’ by JF Danskin.

A glowing jar appears by your knees, and the lizard creature hisses: “Drink.”

You raise the jar. It’s hot against your hands. What have you done that could bring punishment, you wonder? You sniff the liquid; it smells like lilies.

Whatever you’ve done was to save your family. You hope it didn’t corrupt your soul. But if so…

You drink.

“The jar of judgement finds… nobility. But remember — don’t lose sight of your goal.”

The huge eyes blink again, and the key appears in your hand.

Without waiting for an explanation, you rush to the cell door, and unlock it.
