This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. Head back to the previous instalment: “Searching the Smouldering Ruins” or “Time to get out of here. Or find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

“I ain’t got time for this, elf,” you say. “My family needs me!”

Without waiting for her reply, you begin to run down the slope, away from the smouldering village.

The night air is cool and fresh on your face, and you turn events over in your head. You have an axe, but you are alone. Was that wise? Against a band of orcish raiders?

But perhaps stealth can help make up for your lack of equipment... The orcs and prisoners will be slow, noisy.

As the dusk gives way to darkness, you hurry on towards the distant forest.

Determined.
