This is a ‘choose your own’ fiction story, “drabble edition”. Head back to the previous instalment: ‘Gathering by the River’ by JF Danskin. Or go back to Chapter 1: “The Burned Village.” Find out how to contribute to the ongoing story here.

You quickly agree that Polki’s brother, if alive, has been taken by the same orcs that kidnapped your family.

You divide up the weapons and loot, and soon you are departing with your share — the longsword, leather cuirass, and small runestone. It’s not much.

However, as you cross the river, Tox’ar yells and points. Below — a slain warrior in armor.

“He’s a goner. We should strip his armor,” says the lizardman.

“But that’s…” begins Naya Flameweaver.

“We need it,” chimes in Polki.

The others look to you. “I do have some magic, remember,” says Naya, as rain begins to fall.

And then you say:

  1. Strip the armor off the dead guy, and proceed into the forest (click here).
  2. Let’s see what Naya can do (click here).
