The Novel Part 5
“What?” I stammered, perplexed.
“Anna, she just told me what you did!” she cried.
My brows furrowed, I had no clue what was going on. “I don’t know what you mean!” I shouted, frustrated.
“I’m calling the police!” she screamed, and then silence as she hung up. I stood staring blankly at the wall. Fear pulsed through me, why would she call the police? I’ve done nothing wrong. My mind was running non-stop, what did Anna say? I caught a glimpse of my book out of the corner of my eye. “Falsely Accused.”
“No, it couldn’t be!” I said aloud. My mind drifted back to the old lady I encountered on my way home. “What the hell is going on?” I said to no one at all.
I was startled by a loud knock at my door. Again, fear pulsated through my body. I opened the door to find two officers standing there.
“Hello.” I greeted them.
“Russell Black?” They said in an authoritative voice.
“Yes.” I stammered again.
“May we come in, sir?” they asked.
“Of course,” I answered.
“Your sister, Victoria Lewis, is alleging that on the night of June 6th of this year, you molested your niece, Anna Lewis when you were babysitting her.”
I could not contain my disgust or my fear. I proceeded to vomit all over my entryway floor. I almost fainted but the heavy set officer caught me and brought me to my sofa.
“Mr. Black, are you alright?” The red-bearded officer asked.
Once I got my bearings, I spoke, “I don’t know what is going on, but I never touched my niece, something strange is going on.”
“What do you mean, sir?”
I walked to where my book was and brought it to them. “I wrote this book, it was just published a month ago, it’s about a man who gets falsely accused of molesting a child, kills himself and it’s only then that his name is cleared.”
“And then there’s the old woman, tonight,” I said.
“What old woman, sir?” the heavyset officer asked.
