Julian and Liam stood before Wilbur in the coven’s manor common room as the vampire elder studied Liam from down his nose, his gaze scrutinising.

Always handsomely dressed in a cardigan, Wilbur was a gentleman with a sophisticated accent that had earned him the respect of the many. His grey matted hair fell neatly by his ears, though he kept the top of his hair slicked back. His round glasses gave him the look of the title he had earned a degree in and taught for many years — he was a history professor, specifically teaching mediaeval times. As a vampire elder, he knew many hidden arts and knowledge few vampires became worthy of learning or eligible to receive.

‘And you say he consented before you turned him?’ Wilbur asked Julian, his eyes always on Liam.

‘Yes,’ replied Julian, keeping his assertive stance, yet feeling a bit nervous all the same. Wilbur was his mentor, a former teacher, and the vampire who turned him. He had…
