Groceries is a unique area of e-commerce and customers must have some appropriate features. For example, the option to choose the food with specific requirements — based on the diet, not containing some specific ingredient, etc.

Customers should have a good experience in the catalog features — actions like checking the price and information of the products, saving to favorites, buying, etc., should be supported.

Quantity of the catalog categories

Only groceries categories of the online supermarkets were taken into calculation.

Intermarché, E.Leclerc and Auchan have minimum categories — from 6 to 7, Pingo Doce and Mini Preço have maximum — 13 and 12 accordingly. Apolonia, Continente, Froiz, SPAR and El Corte Inglés have the average number of categories — from 9 to 10.

Compare products feature

Only SPAR has a feature for the customers to compare a few products. Customers can mark products with the checkbox and go to the page with a comparison.

Filters in the catalog

No online store allows the customers to filter by country of origin, specific country cuisine and add their own filter parameter.

Voice search

Only Pingo Doce has a voice search. This feature can save customers’ time and make a search more comfortable with less typing with a keyboard.

Search options

Auchan, Continente and El Corte Inglés perform the search even if the customer put the word in the search field with a typo.

Mini Preço and Pingo Doce have intellectual search with the possibility for the customer to search using a few names of the products.

All the online retailer’s stores have easy access for the customers to the cart — cart short preview. E.Leclerc, Froiz, Mini Preço and SPAR show the cart with no additional click.
