The main attractions here are the 16 spectacular lakes that lie in a basin of karstic rock. All of them are interconnected through a series of waterfalls and cascades that follow the beautiful natural flow of the water. Their colours are distinctive (varying from green to azure to blue and grey) and constantly change depending on the quantity of minerals in the water and the angle of sunlight.

Plitvice Lakes National Park is the largest natural park in Croatia. The area has been inhabited for thousands of years, but it only became a major tourist attraction in the late 19th century. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register. More than one million tourists visit the park each year. A quick side note: swimming is not permitted in any of the lakes. The park covers almost 300 square kilometers, so we highly recommend a day-trip visit.
