Keeping reading to find out details of how you can become a writer for Home Sweet Home!

The Winner of September’s Writing Prompt

Last month’s prompt challenged you to think about what family means to you. I really enjoyed reading everyone’s submissions and a variety of different perspectives.

The piece that has the most impact and the most interesting perspective is “My Abusive Parents Have Taught Me What Family Isn’t” by Lucy Morris. Here is an excerpt:

Family, I now understand, is a verb. It’s in motion. It’s growing and it’s changing. Even if your family is more stable and conventional than mine has been, you’ll still find that it changes and grows, with loss and new life alike. And that’s okay.

Well done, Lucy!

October’s Writing Prompt

This month’s writing prompt challenges you to think about the future of parenting. What are your hopes for the future of parenting? Do you have any predictions? For more information on how to enter this month’s prompt, click here.

What’s New?

Home Sweet Home has reached 1.6k followers! Because we are growing so quickly, we have recruited two new editors.

Mason Sabre and Jeanne Yacoubou, MS have kindly volunteered to help with editing duties. They are both very talented writers and we are so happy to have them on board.

Previously, writers were given editor status when they submitted consistently good work so they could self-publish without having their draft reviewed. We have decided to change this and from now on everyone will have writer status and their submissions will be reviewed within 48 hours by one of the editors — Laura Fox, David Fox, Mason Sabre, or Jeanne Yacoubou, MS.

This will ensure that all submissions are of good quality and every piece will get tips from the editors on increasing chances of curation and a higher read ratio.

Each month, five stand-out pieces are selected to appear on the “Best of” section of the homepage. These are the pieces for this month. Be sure to give them a read.
