Home Sweet Home Newsletter August 2020
Winner of July’s Prompt, What’s New, August’s Prompt, and the Best Articles of July.
Happy August!
We hope family life during the pandemic is manageable. However it’s going, we know you’re doing a great job. We are often our harshest critics, so please remember to be kind to yourself.
The Winner of July’s Writing Prompt
Last month, we challenged you to write a letter to yourself when you were a new parent. Every single entry was amazing. This prompt has been the most difficult in terms of picking a winner, so please go to the “HSH Prompt” section of the homepage and read everyone’s entries. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and most important you’ll feel less alone in your parenting journey.
The winner of July’s writing prompt is A Letter to My Teenage Parent Self by Mason Sabre. We don’t get many pieces from fathers so this was a refreshing perspective to read. Mason’s piece is incredibly touching and beautifully written. Well done Mason on your well-deserved win.
August’s Writing Prompt
This month’s challenge is to write about difficult conversations with family members. You can find out more here.
What’s New
From July there has been a co-owner of the publication. This is Laura’s husband, David Fox. David is also a writer on Medium and writes about parenting with a disability. David will be assisting with editing and approving any articles our writers submit to the publication.
We also have an FAQ section as we get a lot of similar questions from writers. We hope this will be helpful to you. If there are any questions you have that we haven’t addressed, please leave a comment and we will be happy to help. We want to support our writers to grow a following and stand a good chance of getting curated. We were new on Medium once too, and we want to share what we know with less experienced writers.
You may have noticed another new edition to the homepage. We now have a “mental health” tag as we recognise mental health affects many parents and families.
Best of July
These are the articles we have selected as the standout articles of the month. They will appear under the “Best of July” section of the homepage.
