Not so long ago, the term “author platform” was new and not exactly widely understood. Today, though, most published authors understand that building their platform to reach potential readers can make a difference when it comes to selling their work. And luckily there are options when it comes to developing one’s author platform — and many informative sources on how to get started. On Medium alone just this year, resources such as The Writing Income Handbook and authors Emily Sinclair Montague and J.R. Heimbigner have covered this topic in creative and helpful ways.

But how does an author develop their platform further to boost awareness and sales of their work?

I’m a big fan of book publishing insider Jane Friedman, whose newsletter The Hot Sheet always serves up intriguing facts on how the book publishing industry really works.
