4 — Just keep going!

In quest of figuring out what I want to do in life, I’ve decided to learn and explore seven skills everyday.

This post is part of my Re Human project, in which I copied from Valentin.

Contrary to what my standard introduction for the Re Human articles writes, my esoteric interests in everything has slightly tamed itself. I no longer pursue activities related to business strategy (i.e. case competition), ecological advocacy or clothing design contests (which are all things I would’ve badly pursued in the past). So I’m quite glad I *think* I am getting closer to the idea of what I’m interested in doing.

So, going through the motions

Coding: No coding today since I’m currently working on a whitepaper about Blockchain technology. Currently amazed at how people have already built a decentralised voting system on github … two years ago.

Running: I have a swollen ankle so I continue to view mountain porn on Youtube.

Chess: I ordered an armoury Chess set on Amazon and it’s so sexy! I played against myself for thirty minutes, following Fischer’s routine, however I remain perplexed on how he played fairly — knowing that his own enemy is himself and the strategy of the game is to make the other win, how then do you move each pieces rightly and accordingly?

Academics:

Writing: Recently finished reading The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and his writing style is extremely distinctive. I aspire to write like him someday:

“You want to share a taxi?” asked Rosie. It seemed a sensible use of fossil fuel.”

“Do you know how to relax? How to just have fun?” It was too complex a question to answer over the wind noise as we pulled away from the lights. And the pursuit of fun does not lead to overall contentment. Studies have shown this consistently.”

“Another world, another life, proximate but inaccessible. The elusive . . . Sat-is-fac-tion.”

“Why do we focus on certain things at the expense of others? We will risk our lives to save a person from drowning, yet not make a donation that could save dozens of children from starvation. We install solar panels when their impact on CO2 emissions is minimal — and indeed may have a net negative effect if manufacturing and installation are taken into account — rather than contributing to more efficient infrastructure projects.”

“Gene’s office is larger than mine, owing to his higher status rather than any actual requirement for space.”
