<Day 4> Figuring Out What I Want To Do In Life
In quest of figuring out what I want to do in life, I’ve decided to learn and explore seven skills everyday.
This post is part of my Re Human project, in which I copied from Valentin.
The What
Typically, I go through the motions: coding, books, running, graphic design, chess and writing. Today, I wasn’t very happy with my performance today. I slacked off and spent a majority of my time watching David Dobrik’s vlogs (really addictive since each vlog is “only” 4 minutes … but you do know what happens when you watch more than 20 episodes, right?). Historically speaking, I know I now feel a mix of guilt for falling behind, anxious that I’m actually a waste man and it will be a major loss of productivity for tomorrow and a major source of unhappiness too as I continue to mope. Though what kept me going to write this post despite and for tomorrow is the following quote :
“Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it well and serenely, and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonesense.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Because “not every day is going to turn out the way we want it to. All routines and to-do lists are aspirational. “You go diving for pearls,” said Jerry Garcia, “but sometimes you end up with clams.” (Excerpt From: Austin Kleon. “Keep Going”)
The Motions
Coding:
Watch me look extremely confused when I try to figure out a simple coding problem on LeetCode; streaming on Twitch!
Books:
Recently downloaded Bobby Fischer’s “My memorable 60 games” and I realised I actually don’t know chess as much as I thought I did, haha. Currently learning how to visually imagine how these chess moves in numbers are played out on the board, in other words — trying to dance the jazz and learn the language of chess.
Running:
No, was a waste man.
Graphic Design:
I caught up on some freelance work for one of my client’s! Unable to screenshot it but yea :) Was fun
Chess:
Learnt the term “Sicilian Defence” in chess openings. Never knew I was doing this move however turns out I was!
Writing:
I have officially surpassed 50 published articles on Medium!
My top articles are one about Notion templates, one where I ramble about the meaning of life in this godforsaken planet, share my uninteresting upbringing story, and my controversial take on feminism & pornography.
Currently writing college applications so I’ll post those soon here too :)
