What moves a person today?

Is it different than yesterday? And will it be different tomorrow?

Do you know what I am asking?

I am asking what moves a person to something far beyond themselves — to act as a superhero beyond their norm.

For some it is a calling that happened in an instance or over a period of time. It is a calling to a certain field or to help a group of people or a person. If you have a calling you know what I am talking about. What was it for you?

For some it is music or a movie or a book, though these tend to last a short while. For others, they are moved by a funeral — the death of a loved one.

Is everyone ‘moved’ at least once in their life?

I will never forget the night I received a phone call that my son had broken his back in a football accident. I will also never forget the moment he was moved to play again because of the band of brothers around him. They had surrounded him in the hospital and he would heal and eventually surround them as a captain of the team. Adversity moved my son to action.

There is the ‘move of the Spirit’ that most have heard about, but only a few have experienced.

There is the movement of a movement, where people get inspired by certain beliefs. They, then, are moved to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

I have personally been moved by stories, by heroes, by music and movies and books. That is partially why I write books — I love to move people, to help them change.

That is what “move” means — to change or to develop in a particular manner. If you are moved then you are changed to develop in a certain way with an inspiration that is far beyond yourself.

So, what are you “moved” to do? When was the last time you remember being so moved to change that you would give up the small to go after the big?

During this season of launching our next book I am particularly moved to help people climb. I am ready for it — to help others get to the next level. That means that I need to support others and to challenge you. It also means that I need to be a part of helping you see the areas where you undermine yourself. The reason that I know that I am ready is that it feels like encouragement, not judgement — to help others truly become healthy.

I am moved to encourage people and this is just the season to do that. Search for it in you. What are you moved to do?
