Privacy and security are core to our ethos here at GlobaliD. From the first moment you open the app, your messages are end-to-end encrypted (e2ee) by default.

There’s no need to turn anything on. Every message you send on GlobaliD — whether direct or multi-person — is encrypted and private. That includes both the web app and the mobile app, which you can now download at your favorite app store — iOS or Android.

The only exception is our latest Groups feature rollout, which is slated to receive e2ee later this year.

Encrypted messaging is fundamental to our platform and will be an important factor down the line when we start offering verifications and payments functionality through GlobaliD messaging. Eventually, developers will be able to code bots to leverage those features themselves.

In the long run, we’d like to open up GlobaliD messaging — where any partner will be able to use and build on top of GlobaliD messaging out of the box.

Here’s how GlobaliD e2ee works:

GlobaliD messaging achieves e2ee with industry-leading encryption standards — a combination of symmetric (AES-256) and asymmetric (RSA-OAEP) public-private key encryption.

  1. All channel messages are encrypted via AES-256, which requires the channel secret to decrypt messages.
  2. When you join a chat (2 or more people), the channel secret is encrypted via RSA-OAEP and sent to you via your public key. Only you can decrypt the channel secret with your private key that you alone hold. In other words, not even GlobaliD can decrypt your messages.

In practice, this just means you can message people as you normally would but in complete privacy. Behind the scenes, the flow looks like this:
