Neighborhood Ambassadors busy at work during quarantine!

The ASUM Neighborhood Ambassadors were hard at work all summer and what a strange summer it has been. We have been having weekly meetings and writing blogs as we learn to socially distance and still be a presence in our neighborhood. With only a few of us still living in Missoula over the summer and a new socially distanced normal we had to keep ourselves occupied without all of our friends.

We were not the only ones working however, your University District Neighborhood Council Leadership Team was also hard at work.

The University District Neighborhood Council began drafting a newsletter at the onset of quarantine.

Check out their summer newsletter for neighborhood events and Neighborhood Council contact information.

Here’s what we’ve been up to the past couple of months!

June 2020

June was an exciting month and with a lot going on and officially kicked off Summer in Missoula.

We met up with the University District Leadership team over Zoom and talked about things going on in our neighborhood and how we can help. Among many topics, we discussed racial profiling within our neighborhood in light of recent Black Lives Matter protests. June events sparked conversations about how we inhabit a diverse neighborhood and Neighborhood Ambassadors hope to continue the conversation and educate ourselves on what it means to be an ally in addition to being a neighbor.

The University District also has a Covid-19 planning group that has held some fun events and hopes to help those experiencing hard times due to Covid-19.

UM Food Pantry, reopening soon!

Throughout the whole summer, but especially in July, we have been posting information about sustainable food access and DIY-ing apartment gardens for student renters. Thanks to the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, we plan to distribute seeds to students through the UM Food Pantry for more apartment growth!

As student renters settle housing, be sure to pay attention to the fees that landlords propose and charge. Review this blog post on rental fees, the reasons landlords charge them, and how you can question a charge.

August 2020

Anticipating students coming back to campus, we have been appreciating all that the city of Missoula has to offer! We want to officially welcome you back to a new socially distanced campus.

Check out this blog post for things to do in the summer sun here in Missoula.
