The mission here at the Renter Center is simple, and hasn’t changed since we began our advocacy! We provide to students. We offer counseling on a one-on-one basis. We help students understand their rights under the Montana Residential Landlord-Tenant Act. We draft grievance and protest letters when appropriate. We also connect students with other community resources that can meet their individual needs. If you are unable to resolve a conflict with our assistance, we can then refer you to ASUM Legal Services, which offers expert legal advice and can even represent you in court. So, if these services interest you, or even if you just want to learn more, please reach out!

But wait, that’s right! We’ve also moved (in hyperspace)!

Luckily, however, the move was limited to hyperspace, rather than a change in our physical location (in other words, we are still doing work in the University Center).

After working our way through the litany of online hosting options available to the contemporary business seeking online presence [in a strange turn of events, the Renter Center was seeking a home], this is where the ASUM Renter Center has decided to land. You, our potentially interested party, have clearly found the Medium page and for that, congratulations! The hardest part may have already come. Yet, for those of you still wondering about our decision to move, or questioning our choice of Medium in particular, there are a couple of features I want to quickly mention that the Renter Center very much looks forward to using.

Most importantly, this Medium blog is subject to change. Each post is time stamped, and categorized according to date published, which indicates to the user the time at which any given article was published. As you surely know, the time has a much greater effect on the renting environment than it used to and, as such, information quickly becomes out of date. The Renter Center hopes this blog will act as a constantly updating ‘renters guide’, mapping the renting environment of Missoula in close to real time. Aside from that, you will hear from multiple contributors within this blog; we want to provide a plurality of perspective when approaching our work and, as such, we want you to have access to that plurality as well.

Now, additional platform aside, the most important thing to remember is that we are still the same ol’ Renter Center. We provide a platform for students, advocacy for renters, and support for landlords seeking the best renters around. Stop in, say hello, and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or subscribe to our mailing list here! We also have a couple of other guides, already hot off the press, so make sure not to miss out (topics covered include living off campus, finding housing, and scheduling an appointment with us)!

We look forward to hearing from you soon!
