Tired of boring Zoom calls and Slack chats? GroupRoom’s spatial video chat platform now allows you to create 3D worlds powered by Mozilla’s AFrame WebXR tools.

Since our launch several months ago, we’ve been supporting 2D spatial video chat spaces with optional background image uploads to create rooms and spaces. Several weeks ago, we announced that we started offering infinite canvas rooms allowing spaces to 10x (or more) larger than your screen size allowing users to navigate around the space like a video game.

Now, you can copy and paste AFrame code snippets to create infinite 3D spaces that run in your web browser across all devices i.e. mobile, desktop, and VR (Oculus and Vive)!

Here’s how it works. Pro users now have a new AFrame room space option available with creating or editing rooms. Simply select 3D AFrame Scene and copy and paste your AFrame 3D world code snippet below.

You can design your own AFrame scene or search Google for one. There are many open source AFrame scenes available. Here are a few lists that I found on the first page of results:

In the above example, I selected the Backyard scene from 30 Days of WebVR and copy and pasted its scene right into the GroupRoom create/edit room page.

That’s all there is to it! You, my friend, now have a 3D spatial video chat space that you can share with your team, friends, family, and/or customers to chat (and collaborate) with users near you in the space.

By the way, here’s what a similar GroupRoom 3D space looks like running on a mobile device.

As you can see in the demo above, AFrame allows us to leverage the mobile motion and orientation sensors to allow you to move around the 3D world by simply moving or rotating your mobile device!

We are very excited about these new GroupRoom platform enhancements. We are even more excited about empowering our customers to host larger events through larger venues in both 2D and 3D formats for their teams, friends, and customers.

Reach out to us on Twitter or Facebook or drop us an email if you would like a demo of GroupRoom or discuss your event in more detail with us.
