Hiking in Oita, Japan
Simple guide to hiking trails in and around Oita 大分県 Kyushu
Note from the editor

This is an extremely bare bones guide to hiking trails in and around Oita prefecture, Japan. After many many hours spent trawling google maps and poorly translated Japanese websites looking for hiking trails, I decided to collate some of what I’ve found. There are no descriptions; I just give you a car park, how long it takes, how high it is, and, if I have a recommendation, an onsen for afterwards. The rest is up to you to discover! There are no difficulty levels — you’ll be fine as long as you have a working pair of legs and a sense of adventure. You need a car for a lot of Oita’s hikes, but if you have done any of these using public transport, please contact me with the details and I’ll add them. Likewise, please please please send me an email if you have other hikes you’d like to add — the more the better!
