The Wildhorn v2 testnet has begun on xDAI Chain and will run for a week! Run nodes to help us test the HOPR network and earn HOPR Boost NFTs. This is a new testnet and a new set of NFTs which stack with the old ones. So what are you waiting for?

How it Works

We’ve looked at the data from our Wildhorn v1 testnet and used it to make a lot of improvements. In addition to being more reliable, Wildhorn v2 also restores Windows support for some versions (see our installation guide for more information and exceptions). Like last time, we need your help to stress-test the network by running as many nodes as possible for as long as possible.

Over the week of the testnet, run as many nodes as you can and use them to open and close payment channels, send and relay data packets and earn and redeem tickets. Every action your node performs which results in an on-chain record will increase your node’s score. To register your score, simply withdraw any amount of tokens to an xDAI address of your choice.

Link multiple nodes to the same payout address to earn the score for all of them!

To learn more about what you can do with your node, check our separate guide.

If you want to learn more about these concepts and how they work within HOPR, why not check out the HOPR Basics series? The whole series will walk you through the background of HOPR in a clear and simple way, but if you want to jump to a specific topic for this testnet, we’d recommend the episodes on sending data, proof of relay, and payment channels and tickets.

Installing and Funding Nodes

To install a node, please see our separate installation guide. You can run a node locally, on VPS or in a dedicated AVADO hardware node. This release has full support for MacOS, Linux and now various options for running on Windows (although we can’t guarantee this will work for everyone, and can’t offer full support here).

Wildhorn v2 runs on xDAI Chain with a new testnet token: txHOPR. To fund your nodes you’ll need txHOPR and xDAI.

If you’re a HOPR staker, you should already have received txHOPR testnet tokens to your wallet. The contract address is 0x978D91ddFdb0c6eaCC22A258fE498957a79c5F4C.

If you’re not a staker, you can contact our ambassadors in Telegram and they’ll help you fund a node.

Earning Points and Registering Your Nodes

Every on-chain action your node performs (except the initial funding action) will be picked up by our analytics and contribute to your score. Scores are calculated on a logarithmic basis, so while every action earns you points, each repeated action is worth slightly less than the previous one.

To register your score, you must perform a withdraw action with your node. Withdraw any amount of tokens to an xDAI address of your choice (this will also be the address we send your NFT to, so it might make sense to use your staking address).

When we run our analytics, we’ll look for the LAST withdraw action your node took and use that to determine your address.

To register multiple nodes, just make sure to withdraw to the same address. The scores for every node you register in this way will be aggregated in our leaderboard.

A basic guide to using your HOPR node can be found here.

Incentives and Payouts

Like before, participating in this testnet will earn you a HOPR Boost NFT which can be used in our staking program to boost your APY. These are different from the Wildhorn v1 NFTs, so you can lock both and earn the APY boost from both.

Once the final leaderboard is complete, NFTs will be awarded based on your position. The top 25% will earn diamond, the next 25% gold, the next 25% silver and the final 25% bronze.

Wildhorn v2 will run until 2pm CET on Wednesday 27th October. Last time we managed over 2,000 nodes online simultaneously. Let’s see if we can top that in Wildhorn v2!
