Sunshines of our Ocean Planet, OH how I’ve missed YOU! I’ve been wanting to jump back into Medium writing and my last post was in 2022 about Sunflowers (a series of 3 posts from 2022, see below) so today, the 2 year anniversary of the Ukraine invasion, felt appropriate.
Blooming SUNFLOWERS are full of vim and confidence.
February 24 marks TWO YEARS since war started in Ukraine and sadly it’s become their new normal.
Sunflowers, the song, was honestly a terrifying topic to create art about, yet you have to be CONFIDENT that your art might help SOMEONE so you put it out there.
Sunflowers was birthed and released quickly because Music with Michele assumed the Ukraine situation would resolve quickly. How IMMENSELY sad that it’s still going on and on.
Let’s look at the seeds and comment/thoughts sewn into my brain and the hearts of others by Sunflowers the song, now 2 years old:
1. Here we are on February 24, 2024. 2 years after the Ukraine was invaded. That’s an unfathomable amount of energy and confidence to rally world support and fend off an invading enemy.
2. Songs can be interpreted in different ways. During these two years, I was in Thailand at some point and a young woman there asked me, “Is Sunflowers, the song, also about leaving a toxic relationship?” Whoa!
3. Recently the mom of a family in Italy, hired me to help her move her family of four to a healthier diet. (including 2 growing teens with different athletic needs)-Bold!
4. Good people have to be able to make money on earth. We cannot live on a planet where only bad guys make big money.
What does all of this have in common? CONFIDENCE.
· WHO do we want to be?
We answer this question everyday with the choices we make.
Sometimes we settle rather than being a person who takes the risk of getting away.
Sometimes we settle for less.
We settle for less money.
We settle to stay when we should GO.
Maybe we settle into a terrible job or relationship when it’s clearly time to GO.
Maybe we think that we simply don’t know, so we do not ever try to learn how to make money or make an independent living.
Sometimes it takes confidence look for another job, or to start an indie endeavor.
Sometimes we settle into someone else’s shitty diet. Being aware helps us see the differences and make good choices for our OWN life. WHO do we want to be?
For the Italian woman & family, the hardest part is not portioning pizza. For her and her family, the hard work will be CONFIDENCE:
To order differently in restaurants.
To prep her kids to ask for different food choices or to ask questions.
To prep her family to ask questions about food ingredients, also during social settings and holidays.
To stand up for what she wants to eat and ask for it.
To bring her own food to some events. Sometimes it takes confidence to whip out your own food.
This is more of a struggle than a fight, but it still requires CONFIDENCE. Compared to war, our personal struggles can seem so infinitesimal yet they are not always EASY (simple maybe, but not easy). Food for thought.

Sunflowers shoot up and beam brightly for us all to notice. What a showy flower!
BOTH staying to fight or leaving it all behind takes CONFIDENCE.
I salute the Ukrainians who stayed to fight and to the innocents who fled to survive. Read the song comments on YOUTUBE and take some quiet moments to send those innocent people some healing energy vibes.
The song has a lot of international attention.
