I love sitting in a coffee shop reading a book sometimes. — Author’s Photo

It seems like I’ve been part of the editing team here at In Living Color for much longer than just under six months, although time really does fly when you’re having fun.

Before transitioning to the editing side, I had previously submitted stories for this publication. However, as a reader, I hadn’t read nearly every story in the In Living Color Publication.

I didn’t know many of you until I became an editor.

Each time you submit a story, I learn more about you as a writer and person.

The photos you share, along with the words that accompany them, excite, inspire, educate, and entertain us.

Whether you think of yourself as a writer or not, you are the author in your book of life.

Every word you type, every memory you recall, every reflection you go through as you write, I hope that you see the depth and significance of your experiences no matter how big or small.

We read them and enjoy them, but I hope you often go back and read your words as you need them.

Now, let’s get on to recaps before I keep rambling too much.

We had a few more self-portrait stories submitted in the final days of April.

Lauri Novak gave a plethora of creative ways to take faceless self-portraits

She also shared more creative shots, from her shadow shot to posing in hats with her story

Claire Elizabeth Levesque originally contemplated deleting a photo she thought was unusable, however we’re glad that she didn’t. Accidental self-portraits are the best

The best selfies are with the ones we love! Melissa Rock takes us on an emotional journey with her fur baby Rue

Kenny Minker gave us a few cool alternative selfies for people who like to be more private online, and yes I will be stealing some ideas, sunglass reflection shots? Yes, please!

Iosé Cocuzza 🪷 showed off her creative skills and gave us a special collage with fragments of herself and other most important aspects of her life.

Krasi Shapkarova Loves photos but doesn’t necessarily enjoy being in them all the time, we were thrilled she opened up and decided to share all the selfies she’s ever taken thus far.

Rhonda Carrier takes us on a journey from her childhood until now with her epic story

JoAnn Ryan spices things up a bit for us with some grown folks talk in her story

Annie Forbes Cooper takes us skiing around the world with her story

Allisonn Church showcases her artistic skills and gives us her self-portraits that she sketched. The talent!

I love that Mystical Aries realizes that taking photos is an act of self-love and discovery and not self-obsession. Here’s to recollections

Purbita Chakraborty shares stunning visuals on her trip to a Greek island and finds a few unexpected moments to take some personal shots of herself.

As April’s monthly challenge closed — Self-Portraits, our lovely founder JoAnn Ryan came in with a call for all things weird, quirky, and strange for our May challenge- Strange Brew!

Monthly Challenge

JoAnn got the party started for us with her special brew of quirky oddness, and Lauri Novak truly gave us our kicks on route sixty-six with her story

We’re only four days into the month and challenge so there is plenty of time for us to come up with our unique special brews. We look forward to more challenge submissions as the month progresses.
